|Engine Test Bench|
This project was featured in the March/April 2007 issue of Live Steam & Outdoor Railroading.
The engine test bench makes a beautiful and useful addition to the shop for running and fine tuning completed engines. Made from solid hardwood and cabinet grade hardwood veneer plywood, the test bench features a working drawer for keeping small tools handy, a large 2 1/2" dia. pressure gauge with a range of 0-15 psi, and accessibility to the pressure adjustment knob while keeping the less attractive air handling components hidden by the cabinet. The filter/regulator/lubricator assembly is firmly supported by an integrated aluminum support bar.
Simply connect your finished test bench to your shop air supply using a quick connect fitting and you're ready to go.
The engine test bench is equally at home in a show setting for displaying engines under running conditions, focusing attention on your own craftsmanship and not on the air handling components.
The prototype shown above is constructed of red oak, but use your own creativity in material and finish selection to fit your own personal preferences.
The plan set consists of 9 pages of drawings, 1 schedule of all purchased components needed (fittings, hardware, filter, regulator, etc.) and 3 pages of construction notes for $12.00 (US postage paid). Please see the general info. page and order page for more detailed information on plan sets.
